Voodoo Music Experience 2011

I definitely consider myself a music festival veteran… I have attended/worked/covered 8 festivals around the United States in 2011 alone. Out of every festival I have experienced, there is really something special about the Voodoo Music Experience, which has found its home under the live oaks and spanish moss of New Orleans City Park. I’m not sure if its just the setting, the ensuing weirdness that comes with a festival slated annually on Halloween weekend, or simply the fact that it is a New Orleans music festival (which inherently births at least a few days of utter debauchery) that gives this festival a bit of a magical feeling. In all honesty, I look forward to this weekend with more childlike fervor than I do Mardi Gras, which is definitely saying alot. This year was a very special Voodoo Fest for me… I was deeply involved in the event; I was covering it for Ourvinyl.com, and was commissioned to create and organize a graffiti mural sculpture that we lovingly dubbed “Anthony” (like I mentioned in previous posts, there will be an upcoming post dedicated to this structure with all kinds of photos and timelapse goodies). Between all of my responsibilities and good-time-having adventures, Halloween weekend 2011 was very much a blur of fun, stress and euphoric elation. As for the festival itself; the grounds were enchanting and full of interesting things to do and look at, the lineup was interesting and eclectic but not as heavy-hitter packed as the other festivals I’ve attended this year; and the bathroom situation was rather atrocious (but as a guy, this was no problem; I found many low-key cuts around the festival grounds when needing to relieve myself). Anyway, enjoy the gallery below!
